The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas and Regency in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

The Grey Monument in the city square in honor of Earl Grey who helped introduce the Reform Act of 1832.

 Around the square

About to tour Grey Street, desiged by Richard Grainger in the 1810s as an ordered civic alternative to open-air markets. He gave Newcastle an ordered sense of public space which is still vibrant today. One prominent historian has nominated it the best view of Regency architecture remaining in England, and consequently, in the world.
 Inside the Grainger Market.
And this is the famous Regency view...
Funny, Mary Poppins playing at the Theatre Royal

Looking back up Grey Street towards the Monument...

Now at St. Nicholas Cathedral, the finest cathedral in Newcastle. It dwarfed St. Mary's...

It was attacked and raided by the Scottish Covenanters in the Civil War, but still standing
One of the most notable Gothic spires in the world, the top of this tower was mimicked by the famous architect Christopher Wren.

Statue of Queen Victoria outside the cathedral.

A service was going on, so I could not get in close enough... I had to hurry so sorry for the bad quality photos. Maybe I'll return another time for close-ups...

 More Regency

One of the finest English orchestras plays in that glass building...

But this is more to my liking...
