Dunstanburgh Castle
Went to the North Sea coast on one of the prettiest beaches in England and saw Dunstanburgh Castle (history below). The W_______s said that they had never seen it more beautiful than on our trip. The sun was shining and comparatively little wind. The sea was very, very cold for me. It really defied my ability to photograph it...
Approaching the castle from the sea and testing my telephoto and wide lenses
A pillbox on the shoreline erected against the Nazis...
Turf on top so that it could be seen from the air.
Anti-tank defenses in case of Nazi invasion. Mrs. W____ insisted that I leave the plastic shovel and socks in the picture. It tells the story does it not?
Crossbow window
circular stair
From on top
Panorama from the very top
Remains of another stair on the far tower
The well below
Double windows may infer a chapel at one point.
Drop outlets over the gate...
Portcullis slit
The inner castle through a window...
Plants growing out of the well
Little homes which Mr. W____ said were the epitomy of England.
